Wanted to take a minute to not only thank the people at Brown’s Bay Marina just north of Campbell River, B.C. area, but all the Canadians that helped us along the way. My wife and I started our journey in our Ranger Tug from the south end of Lk Washington (Seattle) on June 19. Our plan was to wander and fish over the next 2 ½ months as far as the Bella Bella/Shearwater area and back to Seattle. It is a trip that most would not have the opportunity to dream, much less attempt. Our Ranger operated flawlessly and we were on the return after an overnight at Port McNeill. We were just south of that location watching whales and fishing when we were informed by phone that there was a family medical emergency. Returned to Port McNeill and wife left on Kenmore Air for Seattle.

Now I was on my own to make the trip back to Seattle and I know I can do it. But 4 eyes looking for logs and other junk in the water, and anchoring with the other half at the helm, is a real plus. And she is the best cook!!
Not to go into detail but I had been to Browns Bay Resort two visits previously. Brent runs a first class resort and R.V. park. And they are at the top of my list for doing whatever they can to help not only their customers but someone like me in a pickle. Had minor adjustments to make to the boat and needed the oil changed. Correct oil brought from Campbell River with a phone call to Richard Miller’s wife, Julia, who was shopping in town. And marina loaned me their oil pump.

While talking to Richard I found out that he lived at Brown’s Bay and had just bought a boat to start a new water taxi business – COASTAL WATER TAXI & TRANSPORT. It will be a family operated business and they were in the process of putting decals on the boat and remodeling an office on the main dock. Since I start the process for web sites (pictures and writing the text) I asked if I could be of any help to return the favor. Over the next 3 days we got a great start on the web site and it is a work in progress. The opersation at the start will be water taxi, freight delivery, Thursday night skid runs, and adventure tours. I had the pleasure to ride deep into Bute Inlet on one of Richard’s first runs and what a beautiful area. Hey, it is all beautiful “up here” just that some areas have more BANG to them and this is one of them.

So, although I mentioned businesses and names hope you will still print this. I just think it is important that we from south of the border thank you for letting us share your beauty and people. We shall return!!

  2. On Saturday May 30, 2015, We had the pleasure to participate in a cruise through the Discovery Islands with Richard in one of his Water Taxi, Tour boats for a special Birthday Celebration for my Brother. I now am of advanced age but some fifty five years ago I had operated a Water Taxi service based just north in the Johnstone Strait area. Richard very professionally provided us with terrific opportunities to view wildlife and take in the sights with a very professional three and one half tour,
